Sarkis Shadarevian, an 18 year old high school student, was nominated and awarded as an active citizen in Cyprus 2018-2019, through his extensive contributions to the society, including his voluntary charity work throughout the year. The nomination resulted in a poll whereby the public was asked to vote for him. Following this, he was invited to a formal dinner, organised by the Commissioner of Volunteerism, on the 20th of May, at the President's Palace, to receive an award certification by the president, Mr. Nikos Anastadsiades himself. He was one of five individuals in his category to receive an award, and is the first Armenian to receive any certificate at such an event.

The NGO "Vravia Energos Politis" published the following extract upon his nomination, in order to justify it further.

"Sarkis founded Voice4me to encourage young adults and adults to express their positive feelings towards marginalized people in society who experience the horror drama of their homelands, through literature, art and research.

He created five books. "A country ashore" containing 16 small stories based on true events; The song of a sparrow, with poetry and art on war and refugees in the 21st century; "The Edge of Passion" containing poems from a well-known poet forced to abandon his homeland, Syria in 2012, and "Memories of escape" with true stories of today's refugees. The fifth book deals with the theme of elderly, containing stories from various grandparents who wanted to express their story. Sarkis continuously offers voluntary assistance to refugees and refugee camps, as well as to various institutions."
