COUNCIL OF EUROPE MEETING
BRINGS ARMENIAN FM EDWARD NALBANDIAN TO CYPRUS

Cyprus concluded its chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on a high note on Friday by inviting signatories and ratification of a convention for the protection of cultural heritage to combat the trafficking of antiquities and cultural property. Co-signing the "Nicosia Convention" were Armenia, Greece, Portugal, San Marino and Mexico paving the way, for its implementation once it is ratified by five national parliaments.

During his visit Foreign Minister Nalbandian addressed the gathering of Ministers and
co-signed the "Nicosia Convention".
During his short stay he also met with the representative of ARF Dashnaktsoutiun in Cyprus, Simon Aynedjian.

FRENCH OIL GIANT TOTAL
BEGIN DRILLING IN JULY

French oil giant Total has announced their plans to start exploratory drilling off the coast of Cyprus during the first two weeks of July, as Total has signed a contract to explore and divide production in Blocks 6 and 8 within the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Cyprus.
The company also announced that in 2018 it is planning to start drilling in Block 6.

During the week that Armenian Cypriot Scout Master Haroutiun (Artin) Anmahouni received the award of the longest-serving scout in the world, he received a salute of the Homenetmen - AYMA Scouts, at the inauguration of the Khachkar at the Armenian Genocide Park in Paphos.

The development will include 1,000 slot machines, 100 gaming tables and a 500 room Hard Rock branded hotel resort. Additional casino developments are planned for the districts of Larnaca, Famagusta, Paphos and in the Cypriot capital Nicosia. The completed casino development will attract an additional 300,000 tourists a year and create over 4,000 jobs.
► The Texas House of Representatives unanimously passed House Resolution 191, titled “Recognizing the Armenian Genocide,” on Friday, thus making The Lone Star State the 46th state in the US to officially classify and commemorate the 1915-1923 annihilation of Ottoman Turkey’s indigenous Christian Armenian community as genocide.
► In the ITF Cyprus Seniors Cup G2 2017 Finals that took place in Larnaca on Saturday 6 May 2017, former Cyprus number 1 Haig Ashdjian defeated Benedetto Vellucci No 20 in the world 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the men's singles +65 category.
► On Wednesday evening, Henrikh Mkhitaryan's goal helped Manchester United win the Europa League trophy and secure a Champions League spot.
► Antranik Ashdjian Jr. and Mikela Aynedjian both won Silver in Long Jump and 600 meters in the Pancyprian High School Games that took place at GSP stadium in Nicosia in May.

HOMENETMEN - AYMA TEAM HEADING FOR ARMENIA

It is our pleasure to announce that Homenetmen AYMA Cyprus will be participating in the 10th Pan-Homenetmen games that will take place in Armenia during July 20-29, 2017. Fundraising events and more details will follow soon.
During the 9th Pan-Homenetmen games in 2013, our 16 year old athlete Edmond Aynedjian, won the Bronze medal in tennis in the Men's Singles event.
Almost 1200 athletes will be participating in the games from Australia, Middle East, Russia, Europe, North & South America. The games are a tradition, whereby hundreds of Homenetmen’s youth from around the world assemble to meet, compete and strengthen their Armenian spirit and identity, and takes place every four years in Armenia, where Homenetmen has a functional presence and a well-organized chapter.
