KESSAB EVENT TONIGHT IN NICOSIA

SYRIAN ARMY SAYS IT IS TRYING TO RETAKE KESSAB

RT - The Syrian Army is trying to retake the Christian majority town of Kessab reportedly seized by al-Qaeda-linked forces. The attack made hundreds of ethnic Armenians flee and caused international outcry with Armenia blaming Turkey for supporting extremists.
Kessab – located in Syria’s Latakia province, near the border with Turkey – fell to rebels, sparking a fierce battle in the media, as conflicting reports are coming in about the events in the town, which is home to over 2,000 ethnic Armenians.
An extremist group affiliated with al-Qaeda crossed into Syria from Turkey and seized the town after clashes with Syrian government troops and local self-defense squads.
According to the Armenian side, the jihadists were supported by Turkish forces. Ankara denied the allegations as “totally unfounded and untrue”.

Kim Kardashian and Cher join #SaveKessab campaign

American television personality, model and actress Kim Kardashian wrote on Twitter:
“If you don't know what's going on in Kessab please google it, its heart breaking! As an Armenian, I grew up hearing so many painful stories!
Please let's not let history repeat itself!!!!!! Let's get this trending!!!! “

U.S. singer and actress Cher (Cherilyn in Sarkisian) also twitted, responding to the Kessab events:
“Please check out what's going on in Kessab, Syria. Innocent Christians and Armenians being killed by Turks. Save Kessab”.

The Leventis Municipal Museum will be hosting the exhibition on “Aspects of Armenian Art - The Kalfayan Collection” one of the historic exhibits of the Kalfayan Galleries in Thessaloniki and Athens.
The exhibition showcases aspects of Armenian art, from the late 16th century to the 19th century, with artefacts of unique historical and artistic value from the collection of the Kalfayan family. It also incorporates relics from the Armenian Archbishopric in Cyprus.
The presence of Armenians in Cyprus since the early 6th century AD is linked to the history and fate of the island and its inhabitants. These facts, as well as the close ties of the Kalfayan family with Cyprus, since the early 1960s, have led to the decision to host this exhibition at the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia. The exhibition was first presented at the Museum of Byzantine Culture in Thessaloniki, only in a different form and magnitude.
The collection includes rare ecclesiastical and secular objects such as handwritten manuscripts, fabrics and textiles, excellent quality ceramics of the Kϋtahyan style, Chinese porcelain objects, and other items that bring to light multidimensional sides and aspects of Armenian culture. The objects either belonged to Armenians or they were made by Armenian artists and artisans. Many of the exhibits were donations to churches.
The exhibition will be inaugurated on Monday, April 7, at 7.30pm by Nicosia mayor Constantinos Yiorkadjis, the Chairman of the AG Leventis Foundation, Anastasios Pavlos Leventis, and the Armenian representative in the Cyprus Parliament, Vartkes Mahdessian. It will remain open until June 30.
The Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia is located on Ippocrates Str. in the old Laiki Yitonia area within the city walls.
