The purpose of the visit was to create awareness about the poor state the monastery is in with a view to secure funding for its restoration.
During the visit Mr. Mahdessian outlined to the political representatives the historical background of the Monastery and stressed the importance of this unique monument to the Armenian community in particular as well as to the island of Cyprus in general.

ARMENIAN TABLET PRODUCTION
TO BEGIN IN 2014

A first-ever Armenian-designed tablet computer unveiled at a government meeting in Yerevan

A U.S.-Armenian company said on Wednesday that it plans to launch early next year the first-ever production in Armenia of its tablet computers designed by local specialists.
The company, Technology and Science Dynamics, unveiled the first samples of its Armtab gadgets as well as smartphones called Armphone at a December 6 government meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan. The latter hailed this as an important milestone in the development of Armenia’s information technology (IT) sector.
“The manufacturing process has not yet started. We have asked the government to allow us to operate in the free economic zone,” said Rafael Ghasabian, the chief executive of the company’s Armtab Technologies subsidiary.
“In the beginning we will assemble tablets. Their components - more than 20-30 different items - will be brought from abroad and they will be assembled here,” Ghasabian told RFE/RL’s Armenian service (Azatutyun.am).
Ghasabian referred to a tax-free business zone that was opened in Yerevan in July. It is managed by a Russia microelectronics company and is supposed to mainly host hi-tech manufacturing firms exempt from virtually all taxes.
The government is expected to formally allow Armtab Technologies to operate in the tax haven at a cabinet meeting scheduled for Thursday. A corresponding business plan submitted to the government and posted on its website makes no mention of Armenian-made tablets. It presents instead a detailed timetable for assembling for the next three years tens of thousands of MINNO tablets commissioned by their designer in the United States.
Ghasabian explained that Armenian tablets are to be manufactured in addition to the U.S.-designed devices. He said his company has not yet set specific output targets for Armtabs, which will that will run on the Android operating system adapted to its parameters by Armenian specialists.
“We expect orders. But I can’t give any figures for the moment,” added Ghasabian.
According to the business plan, the company’s manufacturing unit in Yerevan will initially employ 20 people. The number of workers is to gradually reach 70 by 2016.
Alexei Chalabian, an Armenian IT expert, suggested that finding export markets will be key to the success to the Armtab project. “The Armenian market is quite small and it would make a lot of sense to try to sell them abroad,” he said.
Ghasabian acknowledged the importance of exports. In his words, the company will seek to lure buyers with the relatively low cost of the Armenian tablets which he said will average $250 apiece. “We plan to manufacture inexpensive tablets with quite strong parameters,” he said.

DAVUTOGLU ACCUSED OF BETRAYING AZERBAIJAN AFTER YEREVAN VISIT

PanArmenian.Net - Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, who visited Yerevan for the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) group meeting, was harshly criticized by the opposition upon his return, virtualaz.org said citing Turkish media.
The MPs demanded an account of the official’s visit to Yerevan as well as of 'secret deals reached'. The Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) deputy Tugrul Turkes required an explanation over the reports of alleged ceding the Nagorno-Karabakh - adjacent regions and acknowledgement of Turkey’s guilt in the Armenian Genocide.
In reply, Davutoglu reminded the MP about his father’s involvement in negotiations with the first Armenian President Levon Ter-Petrossian during the Karabakh war.
“Your father’s actions were not a mistake, and neither is my visit to Yerevan,” Davutoglu said.
The opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) deputy Osman Koruturk, in turn, slammed Davutoglu as “the most unsuccessful Foreign Minister among them all.”
“Negotiating with Armenia is not a crime. What’s criminal, though, is betraying Azerbaijan’s interests through opening of borders with Armenia, in the face of unsettled Karabakh conflict,” Haqqin.az quoted Koruturk as saying.
Earlier, MHP member Oktay Vural also criticized Davutoglu over his visit to Armenia as well as the official’s statement that the “deportation of Armenians in 1915 was inhumane."
He also expressed confidence that the representatives of the ruling party plan to recognize the Armenian Genocide and return lands to Armenians.

TURKISH MP SAYS THAT ERDOGAN'S AKP PARTY
WILL RECOGNIZE THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

The Ilhas News Agency has quoted Oktay Vural as saying that the party led by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is going to allot lands to 200,000 Armenians.
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, who visited Armenia last week, appeared under heavy criticism.
“Instead of protecting Turkey’s interests, the minister betrayed the Turkish nation’s history. The Justice and Development Party is going to recognize the Armenian Genocide. I think the party intends to bring 200,000 Armenians to give them lands,” said the Turkish Parliament member.
It comes after the Turkish FM said in the course of his visit to Armenia that the 1915 deportation of the Armenians from the Ottoman Turkey was inhumane.

It's no accident, I think, that ‪‎tennis‬ uses the language of life. Advantage, service, fault, break, love, the basic elements of tennis are those of everyday existence, because every match is a life in miniature. Even the structure of tennis, the way the pieces fit inside one another like Russian nesting dolls, mimics the structure of our days. Points become games become sets become tournaments, and it's all so tightly connected that any point can become the turning point. It reminds me of the way seconds become minutes become hours, and any hour can be our finest. Or darkest. It's our choice...
